GLOSSARY
UHF/MARINE
40 UHF Channels: 40 Communication Channels. Please note Ch 22 and 23 are used for
telemetry and telecommand applications, voice communication are not permitted on these
channels and a transmission is inhibited.
A.S.C Technology: Advanced Signal Clarity Technology ensures optimum sound clarity.
ANL (Automatic Noise Limiter) Function: Reduces unwanted signal noise for better clarity.
Auto Battery Save:
Automatically saves and conserves power when not in use.
Auto Squelch:
Automatically blocks the unwanted low hissing noise allowing only strong
incoming signals.
Bearcat Engine:
Allows the unit to scan UHF CB channels and user programmable
channels at the same time. Dual watch, open scan and group scan give seamless
communication across the channels and bands.
Busy Channel Lockout: Disables your transmitter while activity is detected on the channel.
Calling Tones: Transmit up to 5 different calling tones on the UHF radio to contact other users.
Channels: The number of transmission frequencies available to transmit or receive messages.
D+ Booster (Extreme Distance Booster): Uses precision matched antennas to deliver
superior range and enhance battery efficiencies compared to standard UHF systems.
Digital Coded Squelch (DCS): Allows you to choose from 104 alternative digital codes
that can be sent with your transmission. The digital code is recognized by the selected
receivers enabling them to receive the transmission. Receivers that do not recognize the
digital code remain silent therefore blocking out unwanted conversations.
DSC (Digital Selective Calling) Class D: A VHF radio standard for communicating among
boats and sending automated distress calls. Class D is the minimum DSC capability for
VHF radios.
Dual Listening Circuitry: Allows you to listen to your UHF and Scanner Channels without
having to switch between Scanner and UHF mode.
Dual Watch: Allows you to monitor the priority channel for activity every two seconds while
monitoring another UHF or AM CB channel at the same time.
E-DIN Size: The correct size for all in-dash vehicle installations.
Front Fire Speaker: Speaker is mounted at the front of the unit, allowing better sound clarity.
Frequency Skip: Allows you to skip frequencies in Band Search, Service Search and Close
Call Search if the frequency is not a preferred one.
Group Scan: This scan mode allows the user to select the channels they wish to monitor/
listen to in a group, along with a priority channel (priority watch).
Interference Eliminator (CTCSS): Allows you to only hear transmissions using the same
code on the same channel, effectively blocking out unwanted conversations.
Key Touch Tone: Alerts you with a tone after a key is pushed.
Keypad Lock: Allows keys to be frozen.
LCD: Liquid Crystal Display.
Long Life Super Switch: Select between high, medium and low RF output power to
extend your battery power supply.
Monitor: Listen to weak signals normally muted by the automatic squelch unit.
Memory Backup: Keeps a backup in the memory of previously programmed frequencies
and settings once power is turned off.
NB (Noise Blanker) Function: Reduces unwanted power or ignition noise.
One Touch Emergency Channel 16: At the touch of a button you have access to
emergency channel 16 or channel 9.
Open Scan: Scans all channels and locks on active channels.
Priority Channel Scan: Allows you to monitor the priority channel while scanning other
channels.
Priority Watch: One Channel per bank can be designated as a priority channel. Once
activated, the scanner will regularly monitor the selected channel and automatically return
upon sensing activity.
Range Extender (Duplex) Capability: Allows the unit to operate via a local repeater
station, if available, which transmits your signal over a wider area. Up to an extra 30-
100km depending on location, height and availability of local repeater station.
Rear Mic Jack: A secondary microphone jack is located at the rear panel for discrete
connection of the standard or optional Remote LCD Speaker Microphone (the microphone
cable can be extended with an optional 2 m extension kit).
Remote or In-Dash Control Head: Allows you to mount the front control of the radio in a
convenient location whilst fixing the body of the unit in a separate location.
Remote Speaker Microphone (with built in LCD): Control all functions and features
including power on/off remotely with this microphone. (The standard microphone or
Remote Speaker Microphone must be disconnected to operate the VOX headset).
Repeater: A high power transceiver mounted on high ground to give maximum coverage,
limited to 21 Watts EIRP, which retransmits the original signal to give extended range.
Roger Beep: Confirmation tone indicating the completion of your transmission.
Search: To scan between designated upper and lower frequency limits for activity.
SELCALL: Selective Calling or Tone Calling allows the user to send a series of tones that
equate to a 5 or 6 digit number (like a telephone number) to selectively call a similarly
equipped person.
Splashproof: Meets the world standard JIS4. Being defined as having no harmful
influence by receiving a splash of water from any direction.
Transceiver: Abbreviation for Transmitter/Receiver, or Two-Way Radio.
Voice Scramble Function: Enabling private communication by scrambling the UH078sx voice
signal, preventing other users without special descrambling equipment from understanding the
conversation. Compatible Uniden units will be able to understand the signal.
VOX Hands Free Capable: Handsfree operation is possible with Voice Activated Circuitry
and optional headset or speaker microphone.
Waterproof: Meets the world standard JIS7. Being defined as having no ingress of water
when immersed at 1 metre for 30 minutes.
SCANNING RECEIVERS
APCO 25:
Monitor any un-encrypted APCO 25 phase C4FM and CQPSK system, including
Motorola systems, using 3600 or 9600 bps control channels.
Band: A designated group of frequencies.
Bank: A traditional bank of memories or channels that aids sorting and faster scanning.
Bearcat: Uniden’s advanced scanning receiver technology that uses the finest engineering,
custom integrated circuits and microprocessors to deliver outstanding performance.
Channel Scanning: 1. Memory Channel Scan – Allows you to scan all channels saved
in the traditional memory. (use Direct Channel Access, Channel Lockout, Priority Scan)
2. State Scanning – Allows you to scan by state or territory in Australia and New Zealand.
Police, Fire and Ambulance analogue frequencies are pre-programmed by state and
territory so that frequencies are easy to find.
Clone: Allows for cloning of another scanner’s programmed frequencies. (The two scanners
must be connected by an optional cloning cable for the cloning process to take place).
Close Call
RF Capture Technology: Allows the user’s scanner to immediately lock onto
nearby transmissions. If someone transmits nearby, the scanner immediately detects
and tunes in to the transmission. Ideal for use at events when the frequency being used
is unknown.
Data Skip: Allows the scanner to skip unwanted data transmissions and reduces birdies.
Dynamic Allocated Memory: The digital scanner’s memory architecture is organised
differently and much more efficiently than the bank/channel architecture used by
traditional scanners. It more closely matches how radio systems actually work. This makes
it easier to program and use your scanner, and determine how much memory you have
used and how much you have left.
GPS Support: A GPS receiver is required (not included) to enable these features with your
UBCD996T scanner. Location Based Scanning - Allows you to automatically turn systems
on and off as you travel through different locations. Point of Interest (POI) GPS Alert - Alerts
you to your own preprogrammed locations whether it be a dangerous crossing, dangerous
road and any POI Alert of your choice. GPS Display Modes: Displays information such as
distance to POI, direction to POI, time to reach POI, current speed, position and much more.
Memory Channel Scan: Allows you to scan all channels saved in memory.
Multi-Site Trunking: Lets you share system channels across multiple sites allowing you to
efficiently use the scanners memory and more easily select sites to monitor.
PC Control: This feature allows the user to remotely program and control the scanner
using appropriate software.

trunked radio systems,
including systems in the VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands. The scanner
can scan both conventional and trunked systems at the same time. Search for and monitor
all the groups with a specific trunked system. Lockout unwanted groups during the search
and save other groups to scan lists.
